St George's Primary School Portland

St. George's in the Community

We were invited as a Portland based school to be part of an art/history project showing the Isle of Portland and its historical connection with King George III and how his visits to the area brought wealth and progress to Weymouth and Portland.

St. George’s, and several Junior schools, were invited to provide a section for a large 4-piece collage which, when joined, will form a panorama from Portland to the White Horse at Osmington.  The panorama will form part of an exhibition in central Weymouth in June 2026.  The Weymouth schools are providing the sections: Weymouth Harbourside, The Kings Statue/seafront, then the Jubilee Clock to the White Horse at Osmington. The final panorama will initially be revealed on the weekend of 6/7 June 2026 at the King’s Dip Event, in Weymouth, in support of Weymouth Museum, and possibly be exhibited at other locations afterwards.

Our panel for the exhibition has been completed by 4RG and depicts Portland and some of things that the monarch George III loved about Portland. Rafe and Poppy are with the finished collage before it went to the exhibition at Portland Museum.

The video below was created during our work on The Big Portland History Project. Take a look at the wonderful work the children have completed!!
