Meet our staff
Mrs Luxon is the Headteacher of St. George’s Primary School. She has worked at St. George’s (previously Tophill Junior School) for many years and knows the children and community well.
In addition to her position within school she has worked in conjunction with the Local Authority to support other schools in Dorset.
Mr M Coombs
Mr Coombs is the Deputy Headteacher and holds responsibility for whole school assessment. He is also an associate Governor and Chesil link Governor.
In his spare time he enjoys all sports, especially football, and supports (what he believes to be) the best English team in Europe – Liverpool!
Miss Garrard is EYFS leader.
Mrs Bowman joined St George’s in April 2016 and is a Reception teacher and is joint SENCO. She works part time with Mrs Burdett working the rest of the week.
Mrs Burdett is a part time teacher working in Reception and Year 1. She is responsible for leading P.S.H.E. across the whole school.
Mr L Wilson
Mr Wilson joined us in 2014 after teaching in Wales for four years. He is a full time Year 1 Teacher with a responsibility of leading Computing, E-Safety and Class Dojo throughout the school. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his two children, cooking and a variety of sports. He is a supporter of, what he thinks is, the best team in Europe – Manchester United.
Ms S Shirley
Ms Shirley teaches full-time in Year 1 and is responsible for D.T.
Mrs Bishop is a full-time Year 2 teacher. She is a member of the Senior Leadership Team with responsibility for Key Stage 1 and leads Religious Education across the whole school.
Mr Counter teaches full-time in Year 2. He is the school Art Co-ordinator as well as being an avid sports enthusiast. He plays for local team Portland Town FC where he is currently the club’s leading goal scorer. Other hobbies of Mr Counter’s include reading, travelling, snooker, basketball and cooking.
Mr J Palmer
Mr Palmer joined us as a newly qualified teacher in September 2012 and currently teaches in Year 1. He assists Mr Barter in leading P.E for the school. Mr Palmer is a keen Southampton F.C fan and goes to St Mary’s regularly to support them. He plays backgammon and golf in his spare time.
Mrs A Burn
Mrs Burn currently teaches in Year 3. She has shared responsibility for leading English across the school. Mrs Burn runs an after school yoga club.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her 2 daughters.
Mr Taylor joined the school in September 2013. He is a keen musician and leads Music for the whole school .
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his two children and performing in his band.
Mr Greet is the Humanities Co-ordinator and has taught in both Key Stages one and two. Mr Greet plays the piano and accordion and enjoys the opportunity to play in singing assemblies and other school events.
Mrs Mitchell works full time in Year 4. She is jointly responsible for English in the school and is joint SENCO.
Mrs Wright joined our team in September 2010. She teaches in Year 3 and is Phase 3 and 4 Leader. She loves teaching every Subject but especially P.E. and Computing.
In her spare time Mrs Wright enjoys swimming and spending time in the great outdoors.
Mr Goble joined our staff team in September, 2014. He teaches in Year 5 and is the leader of Science.
Mrs Roberts is a Maths Specialist Teacher and is responsible for leading this subject across the whole school. She is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Mrs Roberts runs the school Chess Club and a Reading Group for high ability readers.
Mrs Restorick joined Tophill Junior School in September 1999 and remained as a Year 6 Teacher and Year Leader when the infant and junior schools amalgamated in 2006. She is English subject leader and also a member of the Senior Leadership Team with a responsibility for working with and supporting Newly Qualified Teachers who join St George’s.
Mr Barter joined us in September 2013. He is currently teaching in Year 6 alongside Mrs Restorick and Mrs Roberts. Mr Barter previously worked in Poole, working with years 3 and 4. He is in his eighth year at St George’s. Mr Barter is a manic rugby fan, supporting the mighty Bath. Mr Barter previously played semi-professional rugby for Bournemouth and holds a black belt in E.C.K.A. karate. His true passion however is mountains; having scaled the highest summits in Britain alongside Ireland, Morocco, Austria, France, Russia and Switzerland. Mr Barter has a young family and enjoys spending time developing his son’s academic abilities.
Mr S Carter
Mr Carter is a Year 6 teacher. He has been with the school for 11 years and has worked in different KS2 year groups. Mr Carter has recently changed subject leadership and is now in charge of M.F.L. He is a keen traveller and follows the greatest team in any land: Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.
Mrs Mullender teaches music across all year groups. She delivers clarinet, flute and saxophone tuition to children in Key Stage 2 and also directs the Rock and Pop Choir.
